Fall T.V. Schedule – Shows I Love Dearly

supernatural

Along with the new shows cluttering my schedule and taking away time well spent on school work, writing, and video games there are a few shows that I will always stay true to. There are also a few shows that I just can’t admit to anyone else that I watch. For years my two cats, Shu-Shu and Dushka, were the only living creatures in this world who knew of my “Why in the heck would you watch that?” list. Now, I share that list with you. Consider yourself extremely lucky. Shows I love dearly Supernatural Premieres: Oct. 7th I honestly STILL don’t remember what season the show is in.  What I do remember was how bad ass the season finale was! I’m curious on what’s going to happen with Dean and how Sam is going to react to his transformation. Every time I think that the show can’t go on another season, it surprises me. Sons of Anarchy Premieres: Sept 9th I’m a sad kitty knowing that this is the finale season of SOA. As I mentioned in my previous Fall TV Schedule post, I started watching the show when it was in its third season. I still think it’s one of the best shows on T.V. (along with Game of Thrones.) Jax is one hell of a character. Arrow Premieres: Oct. 8th This show had its ups and downs for me. I wasn’t a fan of the second season. In fact I absolutely hated it. At least it’s no Smallville. That show gave me migraines. Last time I posted about Arrow, I was curious if the developers were going to include Speedy and they did! I just hope that Arrow doesn’t go down the same annoying path as Smallville did. So far I don’t think it will. It took eleven seasons for Clark to fly. At least in Arrow, Oliver is already doing what he does best. Grimm Premieres: Oct 24th What can I say about this show? It’s very “Buffy” like in terms of characterization and plots and I was and still am a huge Buffy fan. Last season left us with Nick losing his Grimm abilities. We were also introduced to another female Grimm (besides Nick’s mother) who goes by the name Trouble. The Originals Premieres: Oct. 6th Yes, this is a vampire show which caters to the teenage demographic. I can attest to that. What keeps me watching is the fact that this show is entirely different from Vampire Diaries. There is a little love triangle underneath all the whoopla but the main focus seems to be on who gets to control the city of New Orleans. Will it be the vampires, werewolves, or humans? Not only is there violence (and heart ripping) but the show also deals with characters and their interaction with the modern world. Personally, I’m a fan of Elijah and I don’t like the fact that Rebekah is no longer on the show. Regardless, The Originals is a lot better than The Vampire Diaries. Maybe it’s CW’s way of apologizing to the viewers who had to sit through countless seasons of dopplegangers and the Salvatore Brothers’ ever growing and annoying affection for lame Elena. American Horror Story: Freak Show Premieres: FX is starting to become my favorite station on cable. Not only do they have Sons of Anarchy and The Strain, they also show American Horror Story (and recently every episode of the Simpsons that were created.) I still think the first season of American Horror Story was the best. I didn’t like the second season (Asylum) but I loved the third season (Coven.) Just by watching the previews for this upcoming season, I already know that I’m going to enjoy it immensely.   The Strain Ahh, there’s something about a picture involving a worm slithering through the white part of an eye which catches my interest. Actually, the picture makes me itch and squirm. I want to rub the crap out of my eye until it bleeds…and I like it. I like it a lot! The Strain is different from the regular ol’ vampire tales you’ve probably seen on television. These vampires remind me more of zombies. Once these icky looking white worms invade the bodies of their victims, their transformation is almost instant. They go after the ones they love. They can die from either being beheaded or burned by artificial light or sunlight. A long, thick looking thingamagig shoots from their mouth, latching itself onto the necks of others and in turn, transforming them into these creatures as well. Spooky. Of course there is a Master (who looks reeeeaaallly creepy) and there is a hunter (a Jewish man who survived the Holocaust.) My only problem with the show is how long it’s taking for certain plots to come to fruition. I keep wanting more. Maybe that’s a good sign. Vikings Premieres: Sometime next year Okay, so this show doesn’t start up again this fall season. It’s starting sometime next year. Last season was brutal, unforgiving, and interesting. The Vikings are raiding what we now know as the country of Britain. Along with their raids, they’re fighting among themselves to establish hierarchy. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this show, especially if you’re a fan of anything history, like I am. Plus the into theme in the show’s intro is beautiful and relaxing on the ears.   Game of Thrones Premieres: Sometime next year I have no words to describe how EPIC this show is.  If you haven’t heard by now, you must not be paying attention to epic shows! I’ve never read the books. Someday I’ll get around to it. But for now I’ll take comfort in knowing that I can watch my favorite characters on television participating in this game for power, wealth, and the throne.   Shows I have a hard time keeping up with and/or watching Boardwalk Empire Premieres: Sept 7th I almost want to cry. I’ve stayed true to Boardwalk Empire. I use to love the show. My desire to watch the show died when Jimmy, my favorite character, was killed off. I guess I should be thankful that it’s currently in its final season. I don’t think it could go on for much longer. Sleepy Hallow Premieres: Sept. 22nd The first season started out okay but to me everything went down hill. How long will they fight these four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? I keep looking beyond what’s happening, wondering if this plot can resolve itself or if the plot was never meant to resolve. I love Ichabod but that’s really about it. I just…I just can’t. The Blacklist Premieres: Sept. 22nd I really want to continue to like show. It’s got to the point that I’m forcing myself to watch it and that is the wrong thing I should do. Spader is a fantastic actor and I love his work. However, I feel myself falling out of love with this show. Maybe it’s not for me anymore. Law and Order: SVU Premieres: Sept 24th I’m trying to think of something snarky to describe how I feel about Law and Order in general. I don’t know how many times they can go the child abuse route. It gets tiresome. I guess the show will never run out of ideas as long as humans are out there in the world, doing something stupid and irrational.  I miss Stabler. Bones Premieres: Sept. 25th Bones was a hit and miss for me. I watched the show religiously during the first three seasons. Fourth season I missed a show here and there and by the fifth season…well, did I watch the fifth season? Oh, I heard they killed off Sweets. Shame. Shows I don’t won’t admit to watching Vampire Diaries Premieres: Oct 1st Shhhh. Don’t tell anyone. Bitten Premieres: Sometime next year?? Sharknado anyone? Just kidding. I watched the first episode of Bitten on Netflix. I found myself skimming through some of the episodes while others had my full attention. This show is based  on the Women of the Otherworld novels by #1 NY Times best-selling author Kelley Armstrong. I’ve never read the books nor have I heard of them but this show has peaked my interest. The first season was decent and I will continue watching. I still want to watch Sharknado. Dominion Premieres: Sometime next year?? Like Bitten, Dominion is another Syfy television show. Angels came down to heaven and instead of being the sweet little figures we associate with everything good, they basically create hell on earth. With humans being decimated, they’ve created refuge in enclosed towns to fight off the angel’s threat. One human is the chosen one who will bring something good to mankind. I haven’t figured out what that “good” actually is. Pretty much you have the chosen one theme being played again like a broken record. In this case the creators decided to incorporate angels and different types of angels into the fray. I haven’t seen what I would consider to be a “demon” yet. Teen Wolf Premieres: Sometimes next year ??? Allison is dead replaced by a Kistune. The twins are no longer on the show. Isaac left the show to go to The Originals. Another cast member left the show and is now playing Speedy on Arrow. Kate somehow survived a werewolf’s claws ripping into her neck so now she’s a werewolf (I didn’t even know if she is one.) There’s a fox on the show. There’s no explanation as to how Kate was able to control these huge, big walking Goliath looking warriors that seemed to have no weaknesses until *gasp* the last episode of the season. I don’t know where this show is headed. I NEVER knew where the show was headed. Questions aren’t answered. Things are left in the wind. What the hell Teen Wolf?!?   So there you have it. These are the shows I love and shows that…well, I don’t want to admit that I do or have watched. So what shows do you find yourself addicted to? What shows will you refuse to admit that you have watched until your last dying breath?

Kei. Family Matters

I’m thrilled to reveal the cover for the first novella in the Deamhan universe. Kei. Family Matters, takes place shortly after the first novel, Deamhan.  After being dethroned as head Deamhan in Minneapolis, Kei travels south, looking for the only person he feels would help him in his plan to retake the city. He’s vulgar, unconcerned, and downright uncontrollable because in the end, he believes that he’s the only one can secure his future. **Kei. Family Matters is free for subscribers starting December 2nd, 2013. The coupon code will be in December’s newsletter** Kellie Dennis from Book Cover By Design did an amazing job on the cover! I really admire her work and if you haven’t, I suggest checking out her site. Kei. Family Matters Deamhan Tales #1 Cover: Kellie Dennis. Book Cover By Design Pages: 41 Release Date: December 2nd, 2013 Price: 0.99 Format: E-book (Exclusive Print)     For decades, I singularly helped strengthen the Deamhan in Minneapolis, and made sure that all the vampires feared us. Ramanga, Lamia, Metusba, Lugat – I looked out for everyone. No one before me had the guts to stand up to the humans and vampires like I did. If it weren’t for me, Deamhan would’ve left that city in fear a long time ago. Everything was fine until my sibling, Selene, arrived. She released my sire, Lucius, from Limbo, and all hell broke loose. They massacred my supporters and dethroned me. Now, with his minions rallying behind Lucius like he’s their messiah, Selene and he chase me to the ends of the earth. They erroneously believe that by capturing me, they will exact justice from me for my crimes. Little do they know that nothing can keep me away from Minneapolis, the city I built from the ground up. I’m going nowhere. The city belongs to me, Kei; and only I can redeem it. EXCERPT   Moving in breakneck speed, I grabbed the knife and phone from her grasp and threw them to the ground. I did all of this before she had the chance to blink. Her mouth widened enough to catch flies, showing a side of fear in humans that I loved seeing. “See what I did there Bobbi?” Shell-shocked, she didn’t reply. “I know you saw it. Tell me you saw it.” I wanted to hear her say it but she didn’t speak a word. “I can make you into what I am. I can make you immortal. You’ll be fast, strong, and unafraid of anyone and anything.” “What?” She spoke in a high squealed voice. “I can make you immortal. It’s easy really.” I paused. “Well, actually it isn’t. Some humans don’t survive the transformation.” I scanned her. “But you look suitable I guess. So, you want me to?” She screamed and lashed out at me. She drove her fingernails into my skin, creating long scratch marks that healed immediately. Angered, I grabbed her by her arm and easily tossed her across the kitchen. Her back smacked against the fridge and she fell to the floor. “I guess I can’t make you.” I walked over to her. “Stupid move, Bobbi. If someone offered immortality to me, I’d take it in a heartbeat.” I knelt beside her and she lazily raised her head. “Well, actually I did and I don’t have a heartbeat.” I slipped my hand underneath her chin and raised her head. “I’ll give you a second chance, that’s it. Bobbi, do you want to be immortal?” I’ve sired plenty humans in my time; too many to count, and not once did I regret doing so. Each human served me in different ways. Nashoba was my getaway card. Bobbi would be my…well, maybe she could be my extra pair of eyes while I remained town, if she awoke from her transformation in time. The more humans a Deamhan sired, the more support they had, even if Deamhan weren’t known to be reliable. Broken bonds didn’t matter. I waited for her to throw herself at the offer but instead she opened her mouth and she screamed again. And again. And again. She wailed, trying to move her body away from mine. Tears poured down her face. She moved my hand away from her face and she raised herself up by using the fridge as support. “Please, don’t hurt me.” I stood up slowly. “I didn’t say anything about hurting you. I asked you if you want to be immortal. Are you not listening?” She tried to run by me, but I blocked her way. She moved to the left and I followed her. “I have money. It’s in my room. Just please don’t kill me.” “I don’t want your money.” I exhaled loudly and grinded my teeth. “Please, just go. I won’t tell anyone, I swear.” This turned into a cat and mouse chase and frankly, I was bored with repeating myself. I reached out, grabbed her by her scraggly hair, and pulled back, yanking with such force that I heard her neck snap. I let go and her body fell to the floor like a limp noodle. Standing over her, I took the time to admire my handy work until I realized that I had just killed a potential meal. “Damn it Bobbi,” I snarled as I kicked her corpse. “Look what you made me do.”

September Updates – Blog Tour, Novel Issues, Deamhan Tales

Deamhan Banner 851 x 315 - AUTHOR

I haven’t posted a blog in a few weeks. I’ve been extremely busy, dealing with my novel, fixing issues with my novel, and preparing for the blog tour. #1. The blog tour started this week. If interested I’ve posted the dates on my website. Just click on the “Deamhan Blog Tour” tab above or you can click here. Don’t miss your chance to enter the raffle and win some amazing prizes, including a $50 Amazon Gift card. Free swag is always a plus! #2. A few readers have been so kind to let me know about the issues in my novel, Deamhan. I honestly don’t know what happened and neither does the publisher. At the moment, we’re working hard on getting those issues fixed. I have to admit. I was depressed for a few days after learning that my baby had simple errors, and I mean simple. Errors I’ve never made in my life (waist instead of waste.) I wanted to bury myself in a hole in the middle of nowhere. I know for a fact (and I looked back at the manuscript before it was edited) that the spelling errors weren’t there. But other authors reassured me that this happens all the time and unfortunately I was just one of many that experienced this. Still, it’s unfortunate and just thinking about it upsets me. Thank you all for understanding this dilemma. #3. I’d like to welcome new followers and fans! I’ve received some helpful feedback on how I can improve my presence over the web. As a new author, it’s hard to acquire fans. Humans stick to what and who they know. Thank you all for making me feel welcomed! Both of my Facebook pages have received tons of likes in the past few days and weeks as well, which is exciting! If you haven’t liked them, check the column on the right and please like! You can also sub to my newsletter. I’m going to start giving away some neat prizes for subscribers only! #4. Somehow I’ve managed to finish the free short story of the Deamhan Tales promised to my newsletter subscribers. Kei. Family Matters is 14,000 words. I haven’t decided on the cover and I haven’t handed the manuscript to the editor, but I’m really excited about these tale. I think you will be too. This will be free. Yes, you heard me! Free! Subscribers will get first dibs. For those not subscribed, don’t worry. I’ve planned to release to the public a month after its initial release.

Although I don’t write short stories that often anymore,  I consider The Sisyphus Syndrome one of the best pieces I’ve written period. I’m so happy that I was able to find a home for it. The Week my Writing Schedule Went to Sh*t

words=17317&target=80000&mood=6

I had my writing schedule planned for this week. I knew what I’d work on and revise. By Friday (today) I expected to be about 15,000 words in on the third novel in the Deamhan series (untitled at the moment,) and about halfway through the second episode in the Sphere series . . . I’m so far away from my goal. At first I felt depressed then I decided that no writing goal is perfect.  I went to the gym, worked out with my personal (and cute) trainer, and released some tension. This is how I felt all this week, writing  the third book in the Deamhan series (which is technically the fourth book if you count Maris. The Brotherhood Files)   This is how I felt revising the second episode in the Sphere series But this is how I feel today after returning from the gym. I’ve been on a nonstop roll. I forced myself to take a thirty minute break, playing some COD: Black Ops 2 Zombies on my Xbox, to give my mind some time to relax. So I guess this week hasn’t been that bad after all. Along with this, I have another reason to celebrate! The website for my upcoming novel from Rainstorm Press titled “Deamhan” went live a few days ago! If you haven’t already, you can go to the website by clicking the “deamhan” tab above or you can click here. Every week I’ll reveal two character profiles on the site, leading up to the official release of the novel! So please, stop by and check it out! NOTE: By the way, these writertopia images are fantastic! You can find them here along with other writing tools!

What is Deamhan?

With the announcement of the release date for my novel Deamhan right around the corner, I’ve been polishing up the novel’s website! At first, I didn’t know what route I wanted to take, but I did know that I wanted to give potential readers and fans an idea of what the novel is about and how important certain characters are to the story. Oh, and the Deamhan universe is a little complicated. Q. So what does Deamhan mean? A. Deamhan means “demon” in Irish. Pretty straight forward, right? But wait, it get’s a little more interesting. Q. What is the novel about?  A. Here’s just a sample of the synopsis. Her soft golden skin, her warm smile…these are the only images Veronica Austin has left of her mother who disappeared without a trace twenty years ago on the streets of Minneapolis while researching the Ramanga, the Lamia, the Metusba, and the Lugat. Known only as the Deamhan, they are a different breed from the modern bloodsucking vampire.    A stranger to this world,  Veronica’s search for the truth about her mother’s unexplained disappearance takes her into their sinister and precarious world. She gains the trust of the only other human familiar with the Deamhan lifestyle. With his help she finds not only can the Deamhan not be trusted but it’s her own father, president of a ruthful organization of researchers, who has diabolically maintained that distrust. Q. Wait? What in the hell is Ramanga, Lamia, Metusba and Lugat? I thought this was a vampire novel? A. Oh, it is. However, this novel is different.Let me explain.About a decade ago, before the days of sparkling, sissy vampires, I wanted to write a vampire novel. My idea of a vampire is an immortal creature who feeds on blood and burns during daylight. When I began to brainstorm, I realized that there are many other vampires in folk lore who haven’t seen daylight. There are psychic vamps, vampires who can shapeshift ect. Some vampires live off blood, some vampires live off psychic energy. Some vampires have sharp canines, some have a row of sharp teeth, and some don’t have sharp teeth at all. I was shocked after my research and I began to think. What if I wrote about these other types of vampires? It was difficult at first. I didn’t know what I would call them, how’d they act, what they’d do. So again I returned back to my research and I pinpointed creatures from different cultures. I compared them, figured them out, and in the end I had to decided if I wanted to include them or not. Some made the cut, some didn’t. Believe me, there were so many to choose from. Got it? Good. Q. Can you explain the type of Deamhan and how they differ? A. Sure! I’ll give you a quick explanation. Ramanga –  One of the most violent of all Deamhan. Feed by draining the blood from their human victims. They have retractable and sharp canine teeth.teeth.Lamia –  Feed by draining on the life force from their victim’s mouths, sucking them into dry husks. Lamia prefer the hunt rather than the kill. They favor eating small children. Metusba –  known to be the less violent of the Deamhan. They use their hands to feed from the psychic aura of their victims around them. They don’t necessarily have to kill their victims. Lugat – feed on the psychic imprints of their victims and like the Metusba, they don’t need to kill their victims to live. Often, the Lugat Deamhan prefer to move freely in the human world and enjoy human company.Did I mention that there are four more clans? They don’t make an appearance until the second book so there’s no need to mention them right now.Detailed information will be listed on the Deamhan website and you can read it there, once it goes active. Q. This isn’t a romance novel? A. I don’t write romance. Never have. Sure, sexual tensions occur but this book is purely based on a human woman retracing her mother’s steps and finding out about the Deamhan first hand. Expect murder, killings, and death. Q. So when will the novel be released? Official release date hasn’t been confirmed yet. When I get that information from my publisher, I’m going to blast it all over the net!

Yahoo’s Most Terrifying Films

Sipping on my morning coffee, I came across an article on Yahoo that almost made me choke. View Listing HereDo you agree with this list?  I personally didn’t find The Blair Witch Project that scary. Candyman didn’t scare me. In fact, I found it entertaining. Contagion wasn’t scary at all and My Bloody Valentine . . . . really Yahoo? I do agree that Deliverance was pretty scary in a backwater hick sort of way. The Serpent and the Rainbow fits the list. In my opinion, they should’ve included The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Fright Night (original,) Howling II, and Psycho just to name a few or gave them honorable mentions.Here are my top ten scariest movies (in no particular order)1.
